12 Questions with DJ and Drummer Extraordinaire, Steve Sammartino: Get to Know the Talent Behind the Beats

Today, we’re excited to shine a light on Steve Sammartino, one of our talented DJs and drummers. With a passion for music and years of experience entertaining crowds, Steve brings energy, rhythm, and a personalized touch to every event he performs. We sat down with Steve to ask him a few questions about his career, personal life, and the unique style of music he brings to the table. Where did you grow up?
"I grew up in a suburb of Philadelphia called Broomall. Delco for those in the know. It was a nice little town to live in; so many great memories from that time in my life."
How did you get into DJ-ing? Also, how long have you been DJ-ing?
"I sort of fell into it. I took a job as an assistant here at 3 West Productions, and after about 2 years and about 200 weddings later, I wanted to move up and get more involved in the wedding process. This led me to stepping behind the podium and taking on the role of a lead DJ. I’ll be headed into my second year DJing this year [2025] with a total of over 315 weddings under my belt, I'm feeling confident and ready!"
When and how did you start working with 3 West Productions?
"I started working with 3 West in July 2021. I was playing in an ’80s cover band at the time, and I had just graduated from Millersville University with a degree in Music Business Technology. The head of the band was friends with Matt McCarthy (owner of 3 West), and I received an email from him looking for people interested in running sound for weddings. I jumped at the opportunity, and the rest is history. I now work for 3 West full-time, and I am going on my 4th year with the company!"
How would you describe your personal music style?
"I am a huge fan of the metal genre. It doesn’t come into play much with weddings, but I had a few couples this year who wanted to throw down to some heavy metal. Truly, I’ll listen to anything, but metal is usually my go-to genre."
Who is your top musical artist right now?
"That would have to be the band Sleep Token. These guys came out of nowhere for me, but I was instantly drawn in by their unique sound. This band toes the line between so many genres, blending rock/metal/love ballads/trap beats and even some touches of hip-hop. Just a great all-around band."
What are your top 3 dance floor anthems?
"I'm a sucker for P!nk, so I have to throw in “Raise your glass”, I’d also throw in songs like “All I do is win” (DJ Khaled), “Levitating” (Dua Lipa), and “Hot to go” (Chappell Roan). Seeing people go nuts for these songs always puts a smile on my face."
What is one add-on you would recommend to couples, and why?
"While an add-on won’t make or break your party, I love it when we have the uplighting + intelligent dance floor lighting with us. This allows the venue to dim the lights and turn your dance floor into a bright and colorful party!"

When you aren’t on the dance floor, what do you like to do in your free time?
"A lot of my time is currently spent playing with my band (Making a Mockery). I play drums, and keeping up with learning our songs is always a fun challenge. If I’m not drumming, you can usually find me watching a movie, or trying to work my way through Dark Souls 3 for the 20th time."
On a rainy day at home, what movie could someone find you watching?
"This answer has definitely changed over the years. When I was younger, my absolute go-to movie was 'Clue.' I used to watch it any time it rained, or I got sick, or I was bored. That movie truly holds a special place in my heart. Nowadays, you’ll probably find me watching a spooky horror movie on a rainy day. It’s the perfect time to park on the couch, dim the lights, and get ready to get scared!"
What is your favorite wedding food or dish of all time?
"Two words: Cheesesteak eggrolls"

"I love when my couples finally get to the point of just ~pure joy~ on their wedding day. The stress comes off, the nerves settle, and they just let go and have fun on the dance floor. With planning my own wedding this year, I can totally understand the stress that comes with the day!"
What is one wedding story you’ll never forget?
"My favorite wedding story is when I had my podium knocked over while the guests were moshing on the dance floor! I STILL tell people about that night. One of my favorite weddings so far, and I can’t wait to make so many more memories."
